Politics is not a sterile ecosystem calibrated for the faint-hearted. It is a rugged geopolitical terrain where only those with emotional resilience, cognitive adaptability, analytical mind of a psychologist and the fortitude of a lion can navigate its ever-shifting fault lines.
I watched as a sitting governor, who ought to be the commanding political authority in the state, was seemingly algorithmically downgraded in the political equation of his own state.
His preferred candidates were relegated to the complement of the state political set in the APC National Assembly primaries. In my opinion, everything appeared to be a calculated effort to install the preferred loyalists of the current political barometer(BTO) in Ondo State despite the fact that they lost during the primaries. It is ridiculous how the entire political database was corrupted where merit was overwritten by strategic interests and privileged access.
Surprisingly, I have now heard that reconciliation committees are being set up. The question that comes to my mind is: what exactly are they reconciling? What becomes of the aspirants who fought courageously and invested enormous resources in the process?
Are they now expected to simply surrender while the vanquished who benefited from the outcome celebrate the surrender of the victors?
If the commander of the political army(Mr Governor) in the state should allow reconciliation to become a one-sided exercise by waving the white flag without a fight, such actions in my opinion would resemble administering fragile patients into a toxic pharmacological trial without any therapeutic safeguard. True reconciliation cannot succeed where justice, fairness, and mutual respect are absent.
We are eagerly waiting for the next political episode.
