Handlers of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume say the former Benue is not nursing an impeachment move against the governor of the state, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia.
Recall that Aides and associates of Governor Alia had accused Senator Akume of having a secret meeting with the speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Aondona Dajoh in Lafia two weeks ago where the speaker was mandated to work with the twenty one state assembly members loyal to the SGF on how to impeach the governor and his deputy, Dr. Sam Ode.
They said Akume would sacrifice Sam Ode despite their closeness but he will secure a federal appointment for him immediately he is impeached alongside the governor. They further accused Akume of promising to make the speaker act as governor for six months before a fresh election for governorship and deputy governorship is conducted.
They pressed further in their accusation that the SGF is planning to install one of the former governorship aspirants of the party from Zone A as governor in the fresh election if Alia’s impeachment is made possible.
It would be recalled that the twenty one lawmakers from both the APC and PDP had secretly gone to the SGF in Abuja towards the end of last December to pledge their loyalty.
According to sources, the lawmakers (names withheld) went to secure Akume’s confidence for them to have a smooth return to the Chambers in 2027.
However, the SGF’s handlers who spoke with Nigerian Concord over the accusation this afternoon said that there was no such plan from the former governor. They pressed further that there was also no meeting like that between him and the speaker in Lafia.
They said that although Senator George Akume was at the decamping ceremony that took place two weeks ago in Lafia, the Benue speaker was not in the Nasarawa state capital during that time to meet him.
They confirmed that the SGF truly has about twenty one Assembly members on his side but he has never asked anyone to plan the governor’s impeachment.
In a related development, politicians close to Governor Alia has said that the recent assassination attempt on Aondona Dajoh by the Caretaker chairman of Gboko local government, Abraham Agber was carried out in protest to the rumoured meeting between the Speaker and Senator Akume.
Recall that the caretaker chairman of Gboko local government was arrested and taken to the Force Headquarters in Abuja two weeks ago after a telephone conversation between him and some political thugs on how to assassinate the speaker leaked out.
Report reaching Nigerian Concord confirmed that the incarcerated local government chairman had mentioned the name of a very close associate of the governor, Ternenge Jacob Nevkaa popularly known as Admin as his accomplice.
Following Agber’s confession, Jacob Nekaa was yesterday morning arrested and detained at B Division Police Station in Makurdi but few hours to his arrest, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Youth and Empowerment Mr. Moses Mkeenem, invaded the police station with thugs who forcefully took the suspect out of the Police net to a yet to be identified locations.
