PDP elders from the five traditional components of Makurdi Local Government Area have assured Dr. Eunice Ortom, the party’s senatorial candidate for Benue North-West Senatorial District, of their commitment to work for her success in the 2027 election, urging her to remain steadfast in her ambition.

The elders gave the assurance during an interactive session with Dr. Eunice Ortom, who sought their blessings and permission to pursue her aspiration of representing the people of Zone B in the Senate. She pledged to provide purposeful representation guided by the fear of God, the wisdom of elders and the actual needs of her constituents.

Dr. Eunice Ortom told the gathering that her ambition was driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the development of the zone. She added that she had come to seek their counsel and would reconsider her decision if they advised her not to proceed.

The senatorial candidate said her experience in public service had equipped her with the requisite knowledge to pursue the development needs of the district. However, she emphasised that effective representation would require continuous consultation, promising to create opportunities for elders, women and youths to contribute ideas and identify the priorities of their communities.

She explained that her understanding of government budgeting and policy processes would strengthen her advocacy for employment opportunities, improved healthcare, quality education, agricultural support and enhanced security across the district.

Speaking on behalf of the five traditional components, Hon. Julius Donko (Isherev), Hon. El-Sheikh Ibrahim Aliu (Uke), Hon. Gesa (Ugondo), Hon. Daniel Awav (Tyoshin) and Elder Aloysius Wersha, popularly known as Kubeba (Ipusuu), urged Dr. Ortom to proceed with her ambition without hesitation.

The elders pledged to mobilise support across their respective communities and work collectively towards her success, assuring her that she would not be left to pursue the ambition alone.

Also speaking, Senator Fred Ortil reflected on the 2023 elections, suggesting that the outcome might have been part of God’s plan for Dr. Eunice Ortom to emerge as the Senator to represent Zone B. He called on party faithful and other stakeholders to unite behind her candidacy and contribute to the realisation of the aspiration.

The Director-General of the campaign organisation, Hon. Ortese Gbegi, urged the elders to ensure that the experience of 2023 was not repeated. He stressed the importance of appreciating leaders who remain committed to serving the people with the fear of God, even under difficult circumstances when they might face pressure to abandon the people’s interests.

Hon. Gbegi urged the elders to regard Dr. Ortom as a beacon of hope for Zone B, assuring them that she would not disappoint them if entrusted with the mandate. He called for sustained support to translate her ambition into purposeful representation.
