The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election in Benue State, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, has called on the people of the state to remain vigilant and reject what he describes as attempts to grab ancestral lands under the guise of the proposed Forestry, Mines and Solid Minerals Commission Bill.
Aondoakaa made the call earlier today while speaking at the dedication and fundraising for some projects at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mbahan, Shangev-Tiev, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State. The church was built through the efforts of a young mechanic, Mr. Ushahemba John Agbe.
Addressing the congregation and community members, the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice expressed concern over certain provisions of the proposed bill, which he said could undermine the rights of local communities to their ancestral lands. He urged the people to closely scrutinize policies and legislation that may adversely affect their ownership and control of land and natural resources.
Earlier in his homily, the officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Abraham Alueigba, urged the faithful to imbibe the spirit of oneness for their spiritual and physical growth, drawing inspiration from the Holy Trinity as a perfect example of unity, love, and cooperation. He emphasized that communities thrive when their members work together in harmony and remain united in purpose and faith.
Chief Aondoakaa also commended Mr. Ushahemba John Agbe for his commitment to the growth of the Church and community development, describing the construction of the church as an inspiring example of selfless service and dedication to God.
