TUC attacks on Alia is uncalled for By Aare Abiodun Oluwarotimi

Nigerian Concord Newspaper

I read a statement in The Punch Newspaper this morning and it was credited to the president of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Comrade Festus Osifo, where he said the governor of Benue state, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia mismanaged wage award and palliative funds.

As a journalist, I do make allegations, attack and condemn public office holders with verifiable facts but reverse is the case in that statement by the TUC president.

All through the statement, there was no single fact and figures on how Governor Alia mismanaged the palliative funds. What was in the report are just allegations of misappropriation without how it was done.

If you say someone stole palliative funds released to him by the federal government, one expects the TUC president to state how much was released to him. In how many tranches. How much was judiciously spent out of it and how much that was stolen. Once these couldn’t be proved in the statement, then the TUC president has goofed.

The TUC president also said that Alia hasn’t done anything for the masses. It would have been a very good allegation and we would have been forcing him (Alia) to defend it now if Comrade Festus Osofo had provided a result of his samples opinions of the people Benue who he said the governor hasn’t done anything for.

Now, we are imploring Comrade Osifo to make available the details of his investigation about how Governor Alia mismanaged wage awards and palliative funds so that we can force the governor to defend his allegations.
