Benue Alliance for Good Governance, a non-governmental organization being funded by the governor of Benue state, Father Hyacinth Alia has accused the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume of creating political tensions and animosities on the state.

The Conveyer of the group, Dr. AĆ“ndoakaa Asambe in a press release made available to journalists in Makurdi tis afternoon said the former governor should desist from dictating enemies to the people of Benue state.

The group also condemned Akume for engaging himself in another political crisis with his estranged political godson, Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The statement reads: “In recent times, the political landscape in Benue State has witnessed a recurrent pattern; the creation of adversaries by one man, George Akume, former Governor of Benue State and the Current Secretary to the Government of the Federation. It is with growing concern that we address this issue, as it has profound implications for the younger generation of our state.

“George Akume’s political tactics have been characterized by the divisive strategy of pitting individuals against each other, often at the expense of the collective good. This trend was evident in the 2011 Benue Gubernatorial election when Akume engaged in a political rivalry with Gabriel Suswam, ultimately undermining unity among the people.

“Similarly, during the lead-up to the 2019 election, Akume repeated this strategy by antagonizing the then, incumbent Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom. This divisive approach not only jeopardized the harmony within the state but also distracted us from the critical issues facing our people.

“Currently, George Akume finds himself embroiled in another political feud, this time with the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia. Recent statements purportedly attributed to Akume’s wife suggest an attempt to reconcile with Samuel Ortom, possibly to garner support for a new political battle against Governor Hyacinth Alia.

“It is essential to emphasize that the younger generation of Benue State aspires to a future marked by progress, unity, and development. George Akume’s repeated involvement in creating political animosities threatens this vision.

“We call upon George Akume to reconsider his approach to politics and leadership. Instead of perpetuating divisions and animosities, we urge him to contribute positively to the growth and development of Benue State. The future of our state depends on leaders who prioritize unity and collaboration over discord and division.

“As we move forward, let us strive for a Benue State where leaders work together for the betterment of all, rather than dictating enemies for the younger generation”
