The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has alleged that the people of the State are still wandering in wilderness of broken promises by Governor Hyacinth Alia and his administration.
The party made this statement while reacting to a statement credited to the Governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Kula Tersoo where he said that the state had witnessed massive development under the present administration.
The Benue PDP expressed its disappointment in Kula’s statement, saying that rather than confronting the genuine suffering of the people, the government has once again resorted to its familiar playbook of propaganda, self-glorification, and political grandstanding.
The party said : “No amount of biblical symbolism or carefully choreographed media campaigns can conceal the harsh realities confronting the people of Benue State. Governments are judged by the lived experiences of their citizens, not by flattering press releases issued from Government House.
“If Benue has truly “left Egypt,” why do thousands of people still live under the constant shadow of violent attacks and displacement? Why do farmers remain unable to safely cultivate their ancestral lands? Why are families battling unprecedented economic hardship and struggling to survive? Why has public confidence in this administration continued to decline? These are legitimate questions that no amount of political rhetoric or media spin can suppress.
”Governor Hyacinth Alia assumed office with a plethora of promises and declared himself as the “messiah”. The people innocently invested immense hope in his administration and expected decisive leadership.
”Sadly, that hope has steadily given way to widespread disappointment as many of the lofty promises that lured the electorate remain unfulfilled. Instead of accepting responsibility and providing practical solutions, this administration has continued to blame previous governments for virtually every challenge confronting the state, despite having spent more than three years in office”
The PDP notes that a responsible government earns the trust of its people through measurable results, not through endless public relations campaigns or by branding every opposing voice as an enemy, stressing that democracy flourishes where accountability, transparency, and constructive criticisms are respected, not where dissent is demonized and legitimate concerns are dismissed as acts of sabotage.
The statement reads further: “The PDP maintains that the Alia administration has fallen far short of the expectations of the people in several critical sectors of governance. From security to economic management, from agriculture to infrastructure, from job creation to public service delivery, Benue people continue to wait for the transformational leadership they were promised. The administration’s most visible accomplishment appears to be managing public perception rather than confronting the difficult realities facing ordinary citizens.
”We reject the despotic and undemocratic narrative that every criticism of government amounts to an attempt to drag Benue backwards. Patriotism does not demand blind applause; it demands the courage to speak the truth and hold leaders accountable. The opposition exists to ensure that government remains answerable to the people, and the PDP will continue to discharge that constitutional responsibility without fear, intimidation, or apology.
”The people of Benue expect to see a government that secures lives and property, reopens farming communities, revives the economy, empowers young people, restores confidence in public institutions, and delivers tangible improvements in the quality of life of every citizen.
”The PDP remains unflinching in its commitment to stand with the people of Benue. We shall continue to expose failures where they exist, acknowledge genuine progress where it is evident, and present a credible alternative founded on competence, accountability, inclusiveness, compassion, and responsible governance.
”History will not remember those who perfected the art of propaganda. It will remember those who solved problems, protected lives, kept their promises, and improved the welfare of their people. That is the standard by which the Alia administration will be judged”
