This is certainly a bad time for the senator representing Benue Northwest Senatorial District, Senator Titus Zam as constituents from the zone took to their various Social Media pages and accounts yesterday to demand that he immediately organizes a Town Hall meeting and constituency briefing where he will address people from the zone and also showcase his achievements as their senator for over two years.
According to them, the senator has only been attending decamping ceremonies across the seven local government areas of the senatorial district without any single project to show for his representation at the Senate for over two years.
They pressed further that Senator Zam’s representation is the worst in the history of Benue Northwest, noting that he has failed woefully despite the hundreds of millions of Naira which he has received for Constituency projects.
The chairman of the Jemgbagh Development Forum, Chief John Asema in a telephone chat with one of Nigerian Concord reporters condemned Senator Titus Zam for abandoning the people that voted for him since 2023.
Asema said that a report at his disposal hinted that the senator being the chairman of the Senate Committee on North Central Development Commission is banking on part the allocation of the Committee which is N140 billion to use for vote buying in 2027 hence his refusal to do any project in Zone B for over gwk years.
“We are all aware of this and our people have outgrown that so we implore him to begin to prepare for his retirement from the Senate in 2027 so that we can look for a young and vibrant young man that can bring development to the Zone” he said..
Asema also condemned the senator for his refusal to show empathy for the IDPs across the zone in terms of solidarity visits and provision of relief materials for them.
He also berated Zam for not embarking on a “Thank You” visit to leaders, stakeholders and voters of the seven local government areas of Zone B.
His words: “He had attended decamping ceremonies with John Dyegh in Gboko and Asema Achado in Alaide and also did his own decamping in Gwer West in the last two days but failed to organize a Town Hall meeting where he is to thank his people and also enumerate his achievements.
“It’s now that one can believe in the adage that you cannot give what you don’t have. You cannot show the world what you don’t possess. What will Senator Titus Zam present to his people as his achievements even if he decides to organize a Town Hall meeting today? Absolute nothing.
“The only achievement of the senator is carrying Senator Godswil Akpabio’s bag anywhere the Senate President goes either here or Abroad. Go to Akpabio’s state, he ensured that he drew federal presence to the place but in our case, Senator Titus Zam has failed to make the federal presence felt in Zone B despite his closeness to the Senate President.
“Till today, he has not visited the IDPs to solidarize with them despite outcries from us that he should do so. Ordinary relief materials, he hasn’t made available to them. The little ones he processed and got from NEMA were shared by his Aides while nothing got to the suffering IDPs.
“Has Senator Titus Zam visited Yilewata in Guma to solidarize with the vulnerable people there since they were brutally attacked by the Fulani marauders some months ago. He didn’t even bother to send his representatives to visit the affected people.
“We are calling on him to invite his colleagues for projects commissioning in Benue Northwest Senatorial District if there is any rather than going round with other politicians in the state to attend decamping ceremonies just like he did in Gboko, Alaide and Gwer West with John Dyegh and Asema Achado”
The Jemgbagh Development Forum also urged the senator to address the public over a worded petition written to the EFCC and the ICPC by the Global Anti Corruption Crusaders where he was accused of looting several billions of Naira while he was the head of the Benue State Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The group said that the senator needs to clear his name before thinking of a reelection bid.
According to the group, Senator Titus Zam should also clear the airs on the N250 million Nano loan fraud that was linked to him.
The group also urged the senator to explain why he has failed woefully despite the huge allocations he is getting from the North Central Development Commission.
