Benue Youth Emancipation Group has called on the national leadership of the All Progressive Congress to sanction a senatorial aspirant of the party for Benue Northwest Senatorial Zone, Mr. Emmanuel Jime over an alleged dual party membership.
Recall a widely circulated newspaper report which exposed the former Benue APC governorship candidate of secretly registering as a member of the African Democratic Congress during the online membership registration of the party.
According to the report, Jime’s action was not unconnected with his plan to pick the senatorial ticket of the African Democratic Congress if his aspiration in the ruling All Progressive Congress fails.
It was gethered that Jime took the action after an affirmation from both Rotimi Amaechi and Herman Hembe that he would be given an automatic ticket to contest for the election.
Reacting to the report, Benue Youth Emancipation Group in a press statement signed by its Secretary, Barrister Patrick Tersoo said that the National Working Committee of the party should immediately sanction Emmanuel Jime for the glaring and undisputable anti party activity.
The group also called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to be careful of people like Jime who plan to sell him to his enemies as 2027 general elections approach.
The group also called on the National Assembly to ensure that the Independent National Electoral Commission bars the aspirant from participating in the election since he has violated the Electoral Acts 2026.
Few days ago, the House of Representatives amended the 2026 Electoral Acts to criminalise dual membership of political parties.
Under the new provision, individuals found guilty of belonging to more than one political party at the same time will face a fine of N10 million and a maximum prison term of two years.
To this effect, the group is now calling for the immediate ban and sanction of Barrister Jime for being a member of the APC and as well registered with the African Democratic Congress
Meanwhile, our reporter gathered that zoning arrangement doesn’t favour Jime as his clan has produced senator twice and also has the current speakership.
Analysts wondered why the same clan which has the current speaker of the State House of Assembly still wants to have the Senatorial slot of the Benue Northwest..
All efforts to reach Barrister Jime for his comments over the report proved abortive as he refused to pick his calls or respond to messages sent to him in the process of this report..
