A former Minister for Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN said that Benue State and the North Central as a whole will enjoy good leadership in 2027 if party leaders both in All Progressive Congress and the People’s Democratic Party join hands together to support the ongoing strategic partnership
Recall that Senator George Akume and Chief Samuel Ortom recently formed a strategic partnership ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
Chief Aondoakaa spoke to journalists yesterday at the Makurdi residence of Chief Samuel Ortom after an expansive meeting of the former Benue governor and his appointees from 2015 to 2023.
Urging all party leaders in both APC and PDP to go back home and explain to their people that there’s a strategic partnership to ensure that Benue gets the leadership it deserves, the former chief law officer said: “If we do not do that, then we have all put ourselves in future disaster,” he submitted.
In his speech, the Benue State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of the Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state under the leadership of Chief Samuel Ortom are currently in strategic partnership to produce good leadership in the state in 2027.
According to him, the aim of the partnership is to ensure that good leadership emerged in the state irrespective of the party.
He said: “We are collaborating with PDP under the leadership of APC. Our leader has formed an alliance both at the national level and here in Benue. We appear to be heading towards one direction which is good leadership and the idea is to ensure that Benue state has good leadership.
“We are not talking of a merger. All over the world, parties have strategic partnership. In fact, some parties do not participate in national elections.
“The parties are formed to participate in the state, where they belong and what they do is that they look at the national level and collaborate with whichever parties they want but their primary focus is to win the election within their states or municipal areas.
“So, now we have two major political parties in Nigeria, the APC and the PDP and they have entered into a strategic management partnership with Senator Akume-led APC in North Central.
“The idea is to ensure that good leadership exists in North Central, irrespective of who emerges within the two political parties.”
Asked if a consensus candidate would emerge from the strategic partnership in 2027, he said: “We are both at the national and state level. I think the leaders will tell us what they want with this partnership.
