Yesterday, a pressure group raised issues concerning plans by the “current” Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah to hijack the All Progressive Congress governorship ticket from the lawful winner of the last primaries, Governor Hyacinth Alia.
In its report, the group raised several questions concerning Akutah’s ineligibility to contest under the APC or any other political party because he has breached Section 88 of the country’s Electoral Act.
As a concerned person, it’s important to raise it that any political party that fields Akutah as its candidate will be disqualified by INEC. The reason is that he failed to obey the Presidential Directive which asked him to resign his current position on March, 31, 2026. He didn’t resign then, and hasn’t resigned till today so how does he think he can fly the flag of any political party?
Below are the reasons any serious political party will not even think of fielding Pius Akutah as its gubernatorial candidate in 2027 except if they just want to use his money to develop the party:
Section 88: Political appointee not eligible as a voting delegate or aspirant:
(1) A political appointee at any level shall not be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention, congress, and primaries of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.
(3) Where a court finds that a political party failed to comply with the provisions of this Act in the conduct of its primaries, its candidate for
that election shall not be included in the election for the Particular position in issue.
As a result of the aforementioned, Pius Akutah is automatically disqualified from participating as a candidate in the forthcoming general elections.
Also, any political party that fields him stands disqualified by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC
