Ogun govt breaks over 30 years of water inadequacy

The Ogun State Water Corporation has broken a 30 years jinx of inadequate potable water supply to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.

This revelation was made at the on-the-sight assessment tour of the Acting General Manager, Ogun State Water Corporation, Mrs. Muinat Jaji and her Management team to some Corporate customers in Abeokuta.

She explained that the follow up and on the sight assessment tour was to confirm and address the situation of things after overcoming the challenges facing the Corporation.

Mrs. Jaji said that the purpose of the visit was to intimate our customers that we are fully back to provide and supply potable water and to know the volume of water needed by some of our customers in order to serve them better since water is life and essential.

The Acting General Manager appreciated the State Government under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun for coming to the aid of the Corporation to overcome the challenges faced while also soliciting for the support of the populace to avoid wastage and prompt recharge of water bills in order to serve them better since water production is capital intensive.

In his remarks, the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta, Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu appreciated the State Government for allowing the State Water Corporation to break the over 30 years jinx of inadequate water supply in the Hospital.

He appreciated the Acting General Manager and her team for permanently solving the problem of water supply to the hospital for the first time in its history of over 30 years. “The water has been running, it is drinkable and there has been no complaint from any angle and there has been adequate distribution to all units of the hospital” Musa-Olomu said.

Prof. Musa-Olomu explained that the weight of water in the human body constitute about 70 percent saying that the body cannot work or function without water.

He noted that the Corporation has helped the institution to save millions of naira through the provision of adequate, cheap, safe water supply while promising to reciprocate the gesture by paying water bills promptly.

On his part at the Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, the Provost and Medical Director, Dr. Paul Agboola appreciated the Ogun State Government and the State Water Corporation team for helping the Institution solve its major challenges which is inadequate water supply.

He explained that due to the topography of the land over 30 industrial bore holes have been dug and yet nothing has been shown for it.

Explaining that the hospital is serving not only the patients but also students that come for training from all over the world but water has always been a great challenge.

Dr. Agboola noted that the provision of adequate water supply at the centre was a promise made and kept by the Corporation’s team.

At Oke-Temidre Community in Abeokuta South Local Government, the Area Secretary of Egba Parapo Area Community Development Committee, Prince Adeniyi Adekunle explained that until the emergence of the reservoir placed in the community, water has been a luxury but since the reservoir has been constructed and started working, the people of the community has been enjoying the service of Water Corporation.

Places visited by the Management team include the Arakanga Water Treatment Plant, Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba,Abeokuta, Neuro Psychiatric Hospital Aro, OkeTemidire reserviour, Rock- city Radio Station and Stella Obasanjo Children’s home, Ibara housing Estate, Abeokuta.

The Acting General Manager also visited Stella Obasanjo Children’s home where she assured the home of regular potable water supply. She also presented food items to the home on behalf of the Corporation.
