LG Poll: Akume’s men move to upturn APC victory in court

Nigerian Concord Newspaper

Nigerian Concord Newspaper can authoritatively report plans by loyalists of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume to use the court to upturn the victory of the All Progressive Congress in the last Saturday’s local government elections.

Recall that the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC had on Saturday conducted local government elections across the twenty three local government areas of the state.

Displeased with the outcome of the election, Benue APC stakeholders, members of the Nations Assembly Caucus and federal appointees of President Bola Tinubu from Benue state met yesterday and decided to back some political parties in the state to challenge the outcome of the election in court.

Sources that are in the know told this newspaper that the Chief Judge of Benue state, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, has been drafted into the plot.

It was gathered that the Chief Judge who has a soft spot for Senator George Akume will be constituting an election petition Tribunal to hear the cases of aggrieved parties soon.

According to findings, the Benue APC stakeholders led by Senator Titus Zam have given names of judges that will support their action to Chief Judge Ikpambese to be announced as members of the local government election petition tribunal.

It was also gathered that a huge amount of money has been donated by the stakeholders and members of the National Assembly Caucus to induce the judges.

Recall that the Benue State APC Youth Vanguard has last week accused the stakeholders of bringing thugs from the neighbouring Nasarawa and Taraba states to disrupt the election.
