Political Activist, Comrade Idowu Afuye, has issued a scathing rebuke of former Governor Ayodele Fayose, accusing him of consistently prioritizing personal interest over the progress of Ekiti State.
In a strongly worded statement released in Ado Ekiti, Comrade Afuye said the time for political grandstanding and selfish distractions is over, and that Chief Fayose must learn to conduct himself with the restraint and dignity displayed by elder statesmen such as Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Dr Kayode Fayemi and Chief Segun Oni.
Enough is enough, Afuye declared. Fayose should respect himself and follow the example of Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Dr Kayode Fayemi and Chief Segun Oni. He should allow Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, BAO, to face governance and deliver the dividends of democracy to Ekiti people, not pursue Fayose’s belly.
The activist accused the former governor of dragging the state backward with endless noise, bitterness and self serving politics, at a time when Ekiti people are demanding serious leadership, infrastructure, jobs and accountability.
According to him, Ekiti cannot afford another cycle of political merchants who feed fat on crisis while ordinary citizens continue to suffer. He said the people are tired of recycled actors who only resurface to create confusion whenever a new administration is trying to work.
Comrade Afuye warned that history will not be kind to leaders who chose personal aggrandizement over public good. He urged Fayose to step aside from the stage, and allow the current government the peace it needs to serve the people.
Ekiti deserves statesmen, not opportunists, he said. If you cannot build, do not destroy. If you cannot add value, keep silent and let those who can, work.
Political observers say the statement reflects growing public frustration with what many describe as destructive politics of the past, and a demand for all leaders to put the interest of Ekiti above personal ego.
