The candidature of Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, the 2027 governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP has continued to gain wider acceptance as politicians with electoral value especially critical stakeholders , former appointees, former local government chairmen from Logo and Katsina-Ala local governments yesterday endorsed the former Attorney General of the Federation as their sole governorship candidate.
One of the APC critical stakeholders who dumped the ruling party yesterday was a former Benue state ALGON Chairman, Hon. Augustine Avaan, who is one of the leading stakeholders in Governor Alia’s camp from Katsina-Ala local government who declared support for PDP Governorship candidate Chief. Micheal Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN.
Other APC critical stakeholders in Logo and Katsina-Ala local governments who endorsed Chief Aondoakaa as their sole governorship candidate yesterday during separate meetings with Chief Samuel Ortom and the former AGF included Hon. Comr. Isaac Terseer Agber, Chief Job Tiza, Hon. Richard Nyajo Mbagber, Hon. Charles Iorbo, Edward Nenger, Hon. Terfa Uchir, Hon. Ikyaajime Ngutor Felix, and Hon. Timothy Mnengeve.
The delegation, which represented a cross-section of political interests in Logo, said its decision to throw its weight behind Aondoakaa was driven by his experience, competence, leadership capacity and perceived ability to provide purposeful governance for Benue State.
The stakeholders emphasized the need for a leader capable of uniting the people of Benue, strengthening security, improving the economy and ensuring equitable development across the state.
This development according to findings by this newspaper came from the unresolved leadership crisis within the Benue State chapter of All Progressive Congress.
It was gathered that the latest development from Logo and Katsina-Ala local governments is just the beginning of the calamity that is about to befall the APC as the party may lose more critical stakeholders from other local governments to the People’s Democratic Party.
Meanwhile, the new decampees during their visits to both Ortom and Aondoakaa while giving assurance that they would work for the victory of the PDP and all its candidates at all levels stated that they were tired of staying in the APC as a result of growing dissatisfaction within the APC in the Sankera axis over mistreatment of party stakeholders by Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia and his subsequent selection as the party’s flag bearer ahead of 2027.
The visit to PDP’s top figures signals possible realignment and defections, and highlights how fragile party structures have become with the election cycle drawing closer.
Both Ortom and Aondoakaa welcomed the visitors and reiterated PDP’s readiness to receive members who are committed to rescuing Benue.
With 2027 general elections barely at the corner, the APC in Benue appears to be battling internal cracks, while the PDP is positioning itself to capitalize on the discontent.
