Nigerian Concord Newspaper can authoritatively report a Zoom meeting which took place early this morning between the governor of Benue state, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia and some national leaders of the People’s Democratic Party.
At the Zoom meeting were Governor Alia, former Senate president, David Mark, former national chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu, acting national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Damagun and some members of the party’s National Working Committee.
It was reliably gathered that the meeting was to finalize the defection of the governor from All Progressive Congress to the People’s Democratic Party.
However, it was discussed at the meeting that the governor should win his case at the Supreme Court first before announcing his defection.
According to information, the governor complained to those he met on Zoom that he could no longer stay in the same party with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
Governor Alia complained that Akume wanted to take over his government from him, an action he said he had resisted by excluding all the SGF’s men in all the appointments he had made so far.
The governor also reported Akume of using the APC leadership both at the local government and state levels against him and his administration.
Alia also made the PDP leaders to assure him of an automatic ticket for his reelection in 2027. He however got the assurance from Senator David Mark who told him that if Chief Samuel Ortom could get such benefit in 2019, Alia too should also get an automatic ticket.
