As the leadership tussle in the Benue State chapter of All Progressive Congress continues, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume has intensified his lobbies for an Emergency Rule in Benue state, NIGERIAN CONCORD NEWSPAPER reports.
Sources at the Presidency told this newspaper that the former Benue governor threw his weight behind a parallel House of Assembly led by a Factional Speaker, Hon. Manger Manger in order to illegally impeach the state governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia and his deputy, Dr. Sam Ode.
“Installing an acting governor while the substantive governor still holds sway as governor will cause anarchy and serious crisis in the state, and this will pave way for the SGF and the three senators from Benue state to pressurize the National Assembly and the Federal Government to declare a State of Emergency in the state” one of the sources said.
It was gathered that more than N750m has been contributed in the last twenty four hours to enable the parallel House of Assembly function successfully.
Also, the leader of Senator George Akume political family, Senator Titus Zam has called for a meeting with some of the state lawmakers that voted for the removal of Chief Judge Maurice Ikpambese in order to buy some of them to the camp of Manger-led parallel House of Assembly.
Apart from that, the parallel House of Assembly led by Manger is set to suspend all the lawmakers that voted in favour of the CJ’s suspension so as to pave way for them to have the required number to impeach Speaker Aondoana Dajoh.
On the push for a State of Emergency, this newspaper gathered that Senator Akume has presented Benue state as unsecured before President Bola Tinubu before he traveled out of the country few days ago. It was also gathered that while presenting Father Hyacinth Alia as unfit to provide security in Benue state, the SGF made it known that the only solution is an Emergency Rule.
