The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State Chapter, has elected the Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Council, Engr. Sunny Oche, as its substantive Treasurer.
Oche’s election was held on August 14, 2026, at ALGON House, Makurdi, following the resignation of the former Chairman, Mr. Vitalis Terhile Neji, and Treasurer, Mr. Adole Gabriel Adole.
In the same election, Mr. Justine Shaku was elected as the new Chairman, while Hon. Moses Terfa, Chairman of Konshisha Local Government Council, emerged as Welfare Officer to fill the vacancy created by the elevation of the former Welfare Officer to the Chairmanship position.
The emergency meeting was presided over by the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Ambassador Melvin James Ejeh, Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council.
In his speech, Ejeh said the resignations were formally accepted and the former officers appreciated for their contributions.
He further stated that the elections were conducted freely, fairly and transparently, without interference, intimidation or coercion, with the newly elected officers directed to assume duty immediately.
In his acceptance remarks, Chairman-elect Hon. Dr Justine Shaku described the new responsibility as a call to duty and pledged an administration based on fairness, transparency and teamwork. He promised to bring his wealth of experience to bear on the office, while expressing full support for the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia (PhD) and seeking the cooperation of the immediate past leadership.
While reacting in a press statement signed by Rotr. Innocent Igelle, is Principal Private Secretary to, the Ado Local Government chairman appreciated his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him.
He however pledged to discharge his responsibilities with transparency, accountability and integrity.
Oche also assured the new ALGON leadership and fellow Chairmen of his readiness to work harmoniously with them to advance the interests of Local Governments and improve service delivery to the people.
In a reaction to the development, the Ado Descendants Union in Lagos State hailed Oche for the feat, stressing that his emergence as the Benue ALGON Treasurer is a recognition of his demonstrated leadership, accountability, dedication and teamwork in the administration of Ado Local Government.
The group in a press statement signed by its National Convener, Barrister Agada Joshua reminded Engineer Oche that he should not reflect in his efforts which he has been making to complement Governor Alia’s administration in providing dividends of democracy to his subjects.
The group stated further that the emergence provides him an opportunity to contribute more broadly to the effective coordination and strengthening of grassroots administration across Benue State.
Meanwhile, there were reports that Mrs Lami Danladi, the deputy speaker of the State House of Assembly made spirited efforts to stop the emergence of Engineer Oche as the ALGON Treasurer as a result of an old leadership tussle between them.
