The Chairman of Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, Engineer Oche Sunday Oche, has commended the State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, over ongoing electrification projects across the council, describing them as impactful and people-oriented.
Oche made the commendation on Tuesday while receiving the first batch of solar panels for the commencement of the much-anticipated solarisation of streets across the ten wards of the local government area.
The council boss recalled that his administration had earlier distributed over fifty solar panels across various communities, noting that the latest delivery would further consolidate efforts to improve lighting infrastructure in the area.
According to him, the project became feasible due to Governor Alia’s respect for local government autonomy, which he said has empowered the 23 local government chairmen in the state to operate more independently and deliver development at the grassroots.
He described the arrival of the solar panels as a significant milestone in the Alia administration’s commitment to improving public infrastructure, enhancing security, and promoting sustainable development across Benue communities.
Oche assured residents that there would be no delay in deploying the panels to designated locations, adding that arrangements had already been concluded for their immediate installation.
The solarisation project, which forms part of the administration’s “Operation Light Up Ado” initiative, is aimed at providing reliable and environmentally friendly street lighting across communities in the local government.
He noted that the initiative would transform public spaces, improve night-time visibility, and create a safer environment for residents, businesses, commuters, and visitors alike.
By leveraging renewable energy, the project is also expected to reduce dependence on conventional electricity sources while ensuring uninterrupted lighting in strategic areas.
Speaking further, Oche said the initiative aligns with Governor Alia’s broader development vision, particularly his commitment to lighting up communities and expanding critical infrastructure across the state.
He expressed appreciation to the governor for his continued support to Ado Local Government and other councils in the provision of social and economic amenities that improve the welfare of the people.
The chairman stressed that collaboration between the state and local governments remains essential for accelerating development and improving living standards.
Highlighting ongoing projects, Oche pointed to the Igumale–Agila Road, which has reached the asphalting stage, as evidence of the state government’s commitment to Ado’s development.
He also disclosed plans for the construction of a five-kilometre road network within the local government, describing it as a legacy project that would enhance connectivity and boost economic activities.
In addition, he cited the construction of the Ojoma-Ojeyan road in Ronyonyo Council Ward as part of efforts to expand rural infrastructure.
On agriculture and healthcare, the chairman revealed that his administration had commenced the distribution of 19,000 palm tree seedlings to farmers across the ten wards to stimulate agricultural productivity.
He further disclosed that over 19 solar power units had been procured for installation in primary healthcare centres to ensure stable electricity supply and improve the preservation of vaccines and other medical supplies.
Oche appealed to residents to remain patient and supportive of the Alia administration, assuring that the government remains committed to fulfilling its promises.
Meanwhile, a civil society group, Benue For Good Governance, through its President, Chief Joel Apine, commended the chairman for what it described as laudable initiatives, noting that the achievements would strengthen grassroots support for the governor.
The group urged other local government chairmen in the state to emulate Oche’s strides in infrastructure, electricity, healthcare, and agriculture.
