Benue Intelligence Watch, BIW, has raised alarms over plots by some Abuja-based politicians to attack today’s state Congress of All Progressive Congress in the state.
According to the group in a press statement signed by its state publicity Secretary, Mr. Joseph Atavti, the plot to attack the Congress was perfected during a meeting held in Makurdi by some political thugs believed to be working for the Executive Director Finance and Administration of the Federal Housing Authority, Mr. Mathias Byuan.
Apart from the Congress venue that has been marked for attacks, other places that will be attacked are the screening centres for Zones A, B and C which are Governor Alia Conference Hall, SEMA Complex, Kashim Ibrahim Road, Makurdi, Nnam Hotel Event Hall, Behind Total Filling Station, Old GRA, Makurdi and Conference Hall, Eyah Hotel, No. 10 Sam Ode Street, Old GRA, Makurdi.
The group stated that the planned attack is part of the implications surrounding the leadership tussle between Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
Recall that the tussle between both leaders has led to the appointment of Chief Benjamin Omale as the acting chairman of the ruling party by the National Working Committee of the APC.
The group however called on security agencies in the state to rise up against the planned attacks in order to prevent loss of lives and valuables during the Congress that will be held today in Makurdi.
According to the group, it’s time for the political camp of Senator George Akume to join the state Congress that will be lawfully held by officials from the National Working Committee so that the party can enter the 2027 election as one body.
