The Benue State chapter of All Progressive Congress has commended the state Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia for his attendance at the swearing-in ceremony of the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Joash Amupitan in Abuja yesterday.
The party which commended the Governor in a press statement signed by its State chairman, Chief Benjamin Omale, stated that Alia’s attendance at the historic event signifies his high regards for the Office of the President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
In the statement, Omale lauded President Bola Tinubu for taking his time to choose a very competent man like Amupitan to pilot the affairs of the nation’s electoral Commission.
According to him, the office isn’t for an inexperienced person, stressing that Amupitan’s wealth of experience as a lawyer and as a scholar will help him a lot to conduct credible elections in 2027 and beyond.
Omale also congratulated the new INEC chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan over his nomination by the Presidency and successful screening and confirmation by the National Assembly.
He however urged the new INEC chairman to uphold the ultimate goal of the commission which is to always conduct free, fair and credible elections for the country.
Omale also charged him to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s elections and electoral process, as well as strengthen the institutional capacity of INEC.
The Benue APC chairman pressed further that his nomination by the Presidency, and screening and confirmation by the National Assembly is a testament to his capacity and the confidence reposed in him by both the executive and the legislative arm of government.
