As a result of his crass incompetence and act of corruption, concerned citizens of Benue state have raised public petitions against the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Fidelis Mnyim, asking that he should be sacked immediately.
According to Comrade John Adejor, the convener of Benue Equity and Justice Movement, the Attorney General lacks the skill and ability to meet the basic standards of his office as a Commissioner for Justice.
He pressed forward in his open petition which was published on the Social Media this afternoon that Mnyim ‘s gross ineptitude had led to serious mistakes and failures, noting that he has consistently been making critical errors that are already jeopardizing the office he is occupying.
He also said that failure to sack Mnyim as the Attorney General of Benue state will soon lead to serious consequences, significant harm and and damages which the government will not be able to control.
Also in another public petition against Barrister Fidelis Mnyim, another concerned citizen of Benue state, Mr. Hangeye Elijah Aondofa writes below:
To Whom It May Concern,
I, Hangeve Elijah Aondofa as the concerned citizen of Benue State, wish to express my deep disappointment and rising concern over the performance—or lack thereof—of the current Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Benue State, Barrister Fidelis Mnyim, Esq.
The position you occupy is not a ceremonial one. It is the office of the chief legal officer of the state, entrusted with immense constitutional, professional, and moral responsibilities. The Attorney General is expected to be the state’s foremost protector of legality, justice, and fairness. Yet, almost two years since you took the oath of office, your silence, inaction, and apparent lack of seriousness have left me wondering whether you are fully aware of your duties—or worse, whether you have chosen to neglect them.
Allow me to remind you and the general public of ten core responsibilities attached to your office:
1. Legal Advisor – You are the principal legal advisor to the Governor and government agencies. But when last did your legal counsel make any meaningful impact in shaping the direction of state policies or defending the state’s interest?
2. Representation in Court – Your office should defend the state in all legal proceedings. However, almost every case involving the Benue State Government under the Alia administration seems to be slipping through your fingers.
3. Law Enforcement Oversight – The Attorney General is expected to ensure that law enforcement operates within the bounds of legality. Yet, we see no oversight, no intervention, and no action.
4. Consumer Protection – Your office should champion the rights of the people. When last did you fight for the common man or stand against any exploitation happening in this state?
5. Public Interest Litigation (PIL) – Your office should take up cases in the public interest. Sadly, the people of Benue have seen no such move from you.
6. Review of Legislation – The Attorney General should review and help improve laws. Where are the legal reforms? Where is your input in the legislative process?
7. Prosecution – You should lead criminal prosecutions on behalf of the state. But we don’t see you or your office vigorously pursuing justice against those who wrong the people.
8. Supervision of Legal Officers – Your silence speaks volumes. Have you abandoned the legal officers under your leadership?
9. Issuance of Legal Opinions – The people of Benue are in the dark. When last did you issue a legal opinion that helped clarify critical public matters?
10. Defending the State Constitution – Above all, you are duty-bound to protect the constitution of Benue State. Where is your voice, your presence, your defense?
Barr. Fidelis Mnyim, Esq, I have some very pressing questions for you:
Are you truly professionally equipped to handle the enormous legal duties of this office?
Or have you, by design or negligence, sold out the Alia administration and the people of Benue?
Or should I believe that the Alia administration is simply wrong in all the cases being lost?
Why were you conspicuously absent at the NBA House in Abuja during the Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal? What exactly kept you away?
Is there something you are not telling the people of Benue?
Your silence on these matters will only be taken as confirmation of our fears. If you still value your integrity and the trust of the people, speak up now, or honorably resign from the office you seem unprepared or unwilling to occupy meaningfully.
This petition is not personal. It is about accountability, transparency, and justice. I owe it to the people of Benue to demand answers and ensure that the right people are in the right offices.
Benue people are watching. The truth must prevail.
