The Benue State Bureau Of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs today declared that the Caretaker Chairman of Gboko Local Government Council, Hon Abraham Tavershima Agber remains the authentic and legitimate Caretaker Chairman of Gboko Local Government Council and passed a vote of confidence on him.
This action and a Vote of confidence passed on Agber by the Bureau contradicts the sack of the Gboko local government caretaker chairman by the Aondona Dajoh-led House of Assembly today.
Agber’s sack was announced by the Speaker who also immediately announced Avar Verlumun as a replacement but in a swift reaction, the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs led by Denis Akura dismissed the sack and announced that Agber remains the authentic chairman of the local government.
A press statement from the office of the Gboko local government caretaker said that the chairman on investigation of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) team from the Bureau Of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Tony Agada in company in of the Principal Special Assistant (PSA) to the Governor on Bureau Of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ioryue Yajir, Mr. Choon Ezekiel, secretary of the team and Mr. Agaza Tavershima as member stated at Gboko Local Government secretariat today that the decision of the House of Assembly members was faulty.
According to the panel, the Gboko Council Boss has not contravened any of the guidelines stipulated by LG law adding that Hon. Agber has demonstrated uncommon administrative competence and commended him for strict adherence to financial guidelines as well as the transparent manner he has conducted the affairs of the Council so far and urged him to continue in the same spirit.
In his response, the Gboko Caretaker Chairman, Hon. Agber appreciated the panel for the visit and expressed his unflinching loyalty to the administration of Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia adding, that as Council Chairman, he would continue to operate within the confines of the law in his service delivery to the people of Gboko and called on the people to be law abiding at all times.
In his vote of thanks, the DGSA, Gboko LGC, Mr. Igyuse Ortserga commended the panel for the visit and prayed for their journey mercies back to Makurdi.
Recall that the Benue State House of Assembly today Sacked the Caretaker Chairman of Ukum, Katsina-Ala, and Gboko local government for gross misconduct, embezzlement of local government revenue funds and indulging in unwholesome activities unbefitting of the office the Chairman of a Local Government.
Reading the letter on the floor of the Assembly, the speaker, Honorable Aondona Dajoh put the question before the house seeking their approval which they gave expressly that the chairmen should be sacked and handover to their deputies immediately.
The house has gone ahead to confirm the names sent to them by the executive Governor, His Excellency, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, PhD in this manner,
1. Hon. Tervershima Abraham Agber is sacked as Caretaker Chairman and replaced by Hon. Verlumun Avar, for Gboko local government.
2. Rev. Pastor Gideon Haanongon is sacked as Caretaker chairman and replaced by Hon. Victor Iorzaa for Ukum local government.
3. Hon. Francis Zazan is sacked as caretaker chairman and replaced by Hon. Justin Shaku for Katsina Ala government.
