If there is anyone with no chance of returning back to the Senate in 2027 among all the three elected senators from Benue State, that is no other person than Senator Titus Zam, PhD, the senator representing Benue Northwest Senatorial Zone.
According to independent findings and words coming from the people of Zone B, Senator Titus Zam may be a one-term senator just like his predecessor, Senator Oker Jev who didn’t even get his party’s ticket to return in 2023 because he failed woefully while he was a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria between 2019 and 2023.
The people of Zone B unanimously called against the return of Oker Jev when he was planning to aspire for a second term at the Red Chambers.
Like Oker Jev, the current senator from the zone, Dr. Titus Zam has performed woefully with no concrete project to show for his over two years at the Senate.
Despite heading juicy committees as well as his closeness to the Senate President, Senator Titus Zam has failed to bring the presence of the Federal Government into Benue Northwest Senatorial Zone. He has at many times been accused of being the one carrying Senate President Godswil Akpabio’s files and hand bag.
Instead of him to sit down and plan how to bring the dividends of democracy to his senatorial zone, the senator has been busy travelling all over the world with the Senate President.
Findings showed that Senator Zam has collected several hundreds of millions of Naira as Constituency allowances in the last two years but up till now, he hasn’t done anything reasonable as a Constituency project in any of the local governments that form Zone B.
Titus Zam may be a one-term senator because of his inability to organize a Thank You Tour to all the local governments in the zone. He has never briefed his constituents about his activities In the Senate for over two years, and this has brought so much agitations from the people of the zone who have vowed to return him back home in 2027.
On insecurity, the people of Zone B recently rejected their senator over an allegation that he is part of those Abuja APC politicians that are fueling insecurity in Benue Northwest Senatorial Zone.
They are actually asking questions on why he hasn’t visited all the affected places personally. They recalled that he has never given any personal supports to victims of Fulani herders attacks in the zone especially Yelewata which was the recent one.
This confirms reports that Senator Titus Zam only remembers to come to Benue Northwest anytime the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume is visiting. This is one of the top agitations of people from the senatorial zone who say that their senator has never identified with them in their trying times.
The people of Zone B expected Senator Titus Zam to have lobbied his colleagues and bring them to the affected places in order for them to come and give supports. Instead of doing that, Senator Titus Zam prefers to spend all his time on the Social Media where he engaged himself in gossips. One of his popular quotes is: “Chop, clean mouth and sign out”
Many say that Senator Zam is not a worthy senator as a result of his failure to pull supports for the vulnerable people in Zone B. Some are asking why the senator has failed to bring his House of Assembly members together so they can jointly pull supports for the victims of attacks in the zone.
Many of the people that spoke with this newspaper on the development were angry that the senator was missing during the visit of the first Lady of the Federation, Remi Tinubu. Although, the senator said that he heard about the visit on Facebook, words came from the Benue State Government House that he was officially invited to attend the visit since he is the senator from the affected zone.
Also, there are allegations of financial issues against Senator Titus Zam which the people of the zone are considering as one of the reasons he won’t be reelected as senator in 2027.
Apart from these, the Zoning arrangement in Zone B doesn’t favour Senator Titus Zam again. He is from MINDA, a zone which doesn’t repeat senators. For record purpose, no one has ever done two terms as senator in MINDA.
The unfavourable zoning issue coupled with the fact that the people of MINDA axis haven’t benefited anything from Senator Titus Zam since he was elected senator has made it impossible for him to return back to the Senate in 2027.
Also, if the rumour within the political camp of Senator George Akume is anything to go by, Dr. Titus Zam may have lost the support he once enjoyed from the SGF. According to findings, SGF Akume is angry with Zam for failing his people by not giving them dividends of democracy for the over two years that he has been in the Senate.
