Findings by Nigerian Concord Newspaper have shown that the embattled former governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam purposely planted himself in the All Progressive Congress while he is still a bonafide and financial member of the African Democratic Congress.
Sources said that he cunningly joined the APC today just to prove to President Bola Tinubu that he has no link with Former Vice President Abubakar Atiku even though he is a major backer of the former vice president to take over from Tinubu in 2027.
Another reliable source said that Gabriel Suswam is a member of the ADC and not PDP as he claimed in his resignation letter. He wondered why Suswam had to direct his resignation letter to the PDP instead of the ADC which he willingly donated one of his buildings in Makurdi to as its state Secretariat.
Recall that the moment Senator Suswam left the People’s Democratic Party last year, he immediately ejected the State Executive Council and staff of the PDP from the same building and donated it to his new party, ADC to use as its state Secretariat.
It was gathered during investigation that the N3.1 Billion fraud case instituted against Suswam by the EFCC which is also due for judgement is also one of the reasons the former governor ran to APC. “Yes, he has come to APC, though not with a genuine interest but for his sins to be forgiven” a top stakeholder of the APC in Benue state told one of our reporters today.
The APC stakeholder who preferred not to be mentioned for security reasons stated that while still a member of the ADC, Senator Suswam went round top leaders of the APC, begging them to help him prevail on President Tinubu so he could order the EFCC and Justice Lifu to step down his corruption case.
“He came here and we told him to denounce his relationship with Abubakar Atiku and the African Democratic Congress, and come to our party for his sins to be forgiven. He has come but we have also got another fact that he doesn’t want to resign from ADC and that was why he directed his resignation letter to PDP which he left since last year.
“We have found out that his coming to APC isn’t genuine and also not to support President Bola Tinubu. He only wants his case to be quashed. So we will look into his matter immediately” the source said.
A top official of the APC stated that President Bola Tinubu should be careful as Suswam has no good intention for the party. He added that his state governor too should be careful because it has been confirmed that the former governor is still a member of the ADC and he is doing everything to ensure that the coalition party takes over government in Benue state and Nigeria as a whole in 2027.
“This is the same way he betrayed Nyesom Wike in 2022. He was the first person Wike appointed as his Campaign Manager. He got so much money from the former Rivers State governor but the moment former governor Emmanuel Udom approached him with a bigger offer, he stopped working with Wike.
“The same Gabriel Suswam even ruined the good relationship between Udom and Godswil Akpabio despite that it was the Senate President that introduced him to Udom long ago. Suswam told Udom so many bad things about Akpabio and the rest is history” he stressed.
Another source told this newspaper that it was Gabriel Suswam when he was Governor in 2011 that recorded his telephone conversation with Timpre Sylva when he too was Bayelsa governor, and took the recorded conversation to Goodluck Jonathan.
He added that: “In the audio, Sylva told Suswam that Jonathan lacked the courage and capacity to rule Nigeria as a president, and this angered the former president who swore that Sylva wouldn’t return as governor of the State”
