Terver Akase, the Media Adviser and Consultant to the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, PhD says that the leader of the People’s Democratic Party in the state was not harassed at the party’s national headquarters in Wadata Plaza today as falsely reported on the Social Media..
Mr. Terver Akase made this known in a press statement he personally signed and made available to journalists this evening, noting that Chief Ortom is hale and hearty, “At no time was he shoved, harassed, or assaulted, contrary to claims circulating on social media” he added.
The statement reads:
The attention of the immediate past Governor of Benue State and Leader of the State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Samuel Ortom, has been drawn to some sponsored social media posts alleging that he was attacked at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja today.
Chief Ortom is hale and hearty. At no time was he shoved, harassed, or assaulted, contrary to claims circulating on social media.
The social media reports are not only false but also mischievous and should be disregarded by the public.
Chief Ortom, who is a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP, was at the National Secretariat to attend the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party scheduled for today. Upon arriving at the hall, he observed that a group of party members were holding a meeting. He therefore left, as he was not part of their private discussion and joined the official NEC meeting of the party presided over by the Acting National Chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman and the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
A firm believer in democracy and the rule of law, Chief Ortom has consistently advocated for unity within the PDP and will continue to do so.
Even before the Federal High Court delivered its judgment restraining the conduct of the party’s National Convention in Ibadan, a verdict that equally barred INEC from monitoring the convention, Chief Ortom had cautioned those insisting on proceeding with the convention that they were pursuing an illegality.
The former Benue State Governor reaffirms his commitment to the unity and progress of the PDP.
