The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, PhD has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will bounce back stronger and reclaim power in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ortom made the declaration on Friday at his Judges Quarters residence in Makurdi during a strategic meeting with members of the PDP G-14 and other key stakeholders from Zones A and B, covering 14 local government areas in the state.
Dispelling rumours about his alleged plan to defect from the PDP, Ortom described such claims as the handiwork of “mischief makers,” emphasizing his continued loyalty to the party.
“I have no plan to defect. I am PDP and will remain PDP. My focus now is to strengthen the party and stand firmly behind our candidates to deliver victory come 2027,” the former governor stated.
He urged members of the PDP not to be discouraged by recent defections to the ruling party, advising aspirants to “consult widely and stay committed” as the PDP rebuilds for a stronger comeback.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP G-14, Dr. Laha Dzever reaffirmed the group’s loyalty to Chief Ortom, commending his steadfast leadership and pledging their continued support.
Similarly, the State Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Azua Ashongo, advised local stakeholders to field only credible and people-oriented candidates in future elections, saying this would reflect Ortom’s sacrifices and sustain the momentum of rebuilding the party.
Ambassador Chive Kaave also assured Ortom of the total commitment of Zone A members to his leadership, while Senator Fred Orti pledged similar support from Zone B.
Other speakers at the meeting included Rt. Hon. William Ortyom, who represented PDP members in the Benue State House of Assembly; Hon. Simon Anyamkande, speaking for PDP local government chairmen; Mrs. Veronica Gajir, representing women; and Joel Iyua Kôrinjô, who spoke on behalf of the youth.
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking PDP officials, including members of the National Executive Committee, former Board of Trustees members, local government party chairmen, former appointees, and other key stakeholders.
All participants reaffirmed their commitment to working together for the revival and victory of the PDP in Benue State come 2027.
