Ondo State took off formally in 1976 consisting of nine administrative divisions of the former western state, these nine divisions then were Akoko , Akure, Ekiti Central, Ekiti North, Ekiti South, Ekiti West,Okitipupa,Owo and Ondo.
In 1996,ekiti state was created and it’s on record that four divisions out of five created in 1976 has produced the Governor of Ondo State except one which is Akure Division comprises of Ifedore , Akure North and Akure South Local Governments in the Central Senatorial District of Ondo State since the return to democratic rule.
Looking at the ORIGINAL ETHNIC DIVISIONAL GROUPINGS that form the Sunshine State, the people of Akure -Speaking-Communities comprises of Ilara-Mokin , Aye, Ipogun, Ibule, Igbara-Oke, Ijare, Isolo, Akure, Isinkan, Oda, Ipinsa, Ogbese, Iju, Araromi, Ilekun, Adofure, Ijoka, Ita-Ogbolu, Aponmu,Ita-Oniyan, Eleyewo,Ilu-Abo, Emure,Irese,etc have suffered the most injustice since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
It’s on record from my introspective point of view and a statement of fact that the ORIGINAL ADMINISTRATIVE and POLITICAL DIVISIONS of Ondo State were Akoko Division, Owo Division, Okitipupa Division, Akure Division, Ondo Division.
It’s on record again that Akoko Division produced Late Governor Adebayo Adefarati of blessed memory, Owo Division produced Late Governor Adekunle Ajasin and Late Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, the Okitipupa Division produced Governor Olusegun Agagu when Ondo Division produced Governor Olusegun Mimiko when Akure Division that comprises of Ifedore,Akur e North & Akure South Local Governments in the Central Senatorial District of Ondo State despite being the largest in numerical strength has never produced governor since the creation of Ondo State.
In the spirit of fairness,equity and justice in an egalitarian society, Akure-Speaking-Communities comprises of Ifedore,Akure North and Akure South Local Governments in Ondo State should produce the next Governor of the Sunshine State as ZONING is ” GBAJU E ”
