Contrary to claims by the embattled deputy speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mrs Lami Danladi Ogenyi that there was an illegal detention cell being operated in Obioye part of Ado Local Government, the Inspector-General Special Investigation Team has confirmed that such cell doesn’t exist in the area.
The latest development has put the agitation from Mrs Lami Danladi that the chairman of the local government, Mr. Oche Sunday Oche was behind the illegal cell to rest.
The disclosure by the IGP Special Team led by the O/C Crimes of the AIG Office in Zone 4 Makurdi, CSP Mannase Orhena led to an express order from the IGP, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun that the three traditional monarchs whom his team of investigators arrested and detained in connection with the allegations from the deputy speaker be released immediately.
The detained chiefs who the IGP ordered to be released after his team discovered that the petition from the deputy speaker was frivolous are Isaac Ebilima, Igwe Linus and Daniel Nweze.
The three chiefs from Ado Local Government were released unconditionally on Monday after the IGP Special Team found out from residents, women and youths of the said place that there has never been any illegal detention cell in Obioye as alleged by Mrs Danladi.
According to the police investigation reports, more than one hundred residents of the town were interrogated when the IGP Special Team led by CSP Mannase Orhena visited on Sunday, and they all confirmed that the place where Lami Danladi claimed to be a detention cell was just an open market square which occupies some shops and a Catholic Church where worshipers still worship till now.
Also in the police investigation reports, some of the acclaimed victims who were mentioned in the petition from Lami Danladi changed their statements to negate the petition when the IGP Special Team visited the town on Sunday.
Video evidences which a police source made available to Nigerian Concord this night showed that an operational barbers shop was the exact place where the deputy speaker lied to the Police authority as well as the State House of Assembly to be a detention cell.
