A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, yesterday described the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, as a brave leader who fought for the advancement of security in the state without twisting the narrative.
The former Commissioner for Education made this disclosure during a solidarity visit by former appointees of His Excellency Samuel Ortom at his Judges’ Quarters residence in Makurdi.
The former Commissioner noted that Samuel Ortom governed the state with the fear of God, integrity, and a deep understanding of the security situation in the state, hence the enactment of the Open Grazing Prohibition law.
The university don frowned at the current leadership of the state, which has not shown compassion for the incessant attacks on the Benue people and the deliberate intention to change the narrative to please certain individuals for political convenience.
He further stated that if given the opportunity to serve, he would prioritize the security of lives and property of the Benue people by consolidating the gains of the Anti-Open Grazing law, which seems to be relegated under the present dispensation.
Prof. Ityavyar concluded that with Ortom’s mastery of grassroots politics and purposeful leadership, he trusts God that PDP will reclaim power in the state come 2027.
