Permanent Secretary Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management/SEMA, Sir James Iorpuu, has listed the achievements of the humanitarian agency, restating the desire of the agency to continue to strengthen engagement with United Nations agencies and other humanitarian actors to attract greater attention and support for emergency response interventions in the state
James Iorpuu who stated this during a function recently said the strategic partnerships have facilitated increased humanitarian assistance, ensuring that IDPs, host communities, and refugees at Kyogen and other affected locations receive timely aid.
Speaking of the achievement of SEMA, he stressed that the humanitarian agency had introduced a structured system for the monthly distribution of food and non-food items to IDPs, host communities, and refugees. He noted that the initiative has improved transparency and accountability and has ensured that relief materials reach those who need them most.
Iorpuu stressed further that the agency had also introduced biometric registration of iDPs, a process which he said has revolutionized the management of displaced persons by providing a credible database, eliminating duplication, and enhancing proper planning for durable solutions.
His words: “SEMA has also introduced a structured system for distributing food and non-food items, biometric registration of IDPs, and livelihood programs to foster self-reliance and long-term sustainability.
“The agency has renovated its headquarters, constructed the Fr. Alia Conference Hall, and secured partnerships to enhance humanitarian coordination, data, security, and emergency response systems.
“SEMA’s staff has undergone continuous training and capacity development, and the agency has institutionalized a recognition program to reward outstanding contributions.
“The Benue State Government has supported SEMA’s efforts, including donating operational trucks to enhance the distribution of relief materials,” he noted.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Hyacinth lormem Alia, humanitarian partners, SEMA staff, security agencies, the media, and stakeholders for their contributions to the agency’s success.
