Fresh have emerged on how the Chairman of the Senate Committee on North Central Development Commission, Senator Titus Zam fraudulently diverted a whooping N850m he got for Constituency projects in the past two year.
Despite this huge amount, Senator Titus Zam who represents Benue Northwest Senatorial District at the upper chamber of the National Assembly has not embarked on any project since he assumed duties two and half years ago.
Apart from that, constituents of Benue Northwest Senatorial Zone are also dragging Senator Titus Zam over allegations that he diverted some federal government palliatives worth hundreds millions of Naira meant for them and IDPs in the zone some moths ago.
Recall that the senator recently released a personal statement that the allegation was untrue, stressing that he delivered the items to the IDPs immediately they were approved by NEMA but, findings by this newspaper showed that the said relief materials were diverted by his Aides on his instructions after about two percent of it was given to a few IDPs.
Some members of his Constituency who spoke to Nigerian Concord Newspaper criticised the senator for lack of legislative focus and his inability to bring federal presence into his District since he assumed duties as a federal lawmaker at the Red Chambers.
Findings by this newspaper also showed that a whooping N850 million had been released to the senator by the National Assembly as his Constituency allowances in the past two years. “This is why we are calling on him to come back home and show us the projects which he has executed with the N850 million in all the local governments that make up the senatorial zone” one of the agitators said.
Raising serious concerns regarding his failure and poor performance at the Senate, members of Senator Titus Zam’s constituency said that he must not come to the zone for any campaign if he doesn’t not show his scorecards within the two weeks.
They also threatened to petition the EFCC and other anti graft agencies in the country so he can be dragged to explain the whereabout of the N850 Million constituency allowances he had got from the Red Chambers..
They accused him of using the mandate given to him by his Constituents to fight local political battles in Benue state instead of using it to bring developments to the senatorial zone.
Meanwhile, the youths from Benue Northwest under the umbrella body of Benue Northwest Youths Development Forum spoke with our newspaper, noting that Dr. Zam, as a result of his poor representation lacks the standard to represent Benue Northwest at the Senate again in 2027.
In a related development, Benue For Good Governance in a press statement signed by its president, Ugbor Terhemba Esq, this afternoon stated that Senator Titus Zam should explain the whereabouts of the relief materials which the federal government through the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA released to him for immediate distribution to the IDPs and the vulnerable people in the zone sometimes ago.
The group said in the statement that there are details of how the said palliatives were taken to another location in Makurdi while only two percent were given to the IDPs and the remaining diverted by the senator’s Aides on his instruction.
