The Benue state chapter of People’s Democratic Party under the leadership of former governor Samuel Ortom PhD has disowned a caucus meeting held in Makurdi by a factional group in the party.
The State Secretary of the party, Comr. Dan Nyikwagh, who reacted in a press statement he signed and made available to journalists in Makurdi this morning added that there is only one PDP in the state.
The statement reads:
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State wishes to draw the attention of its members, stakeholders, and the general public to the activities of a group of individuals led by one Chris Abah, who have been parading themselves as members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of our great party.
On Sunday, 20th October, this group went as far as claiming to hold an unauthorized expanded caucus meeting at the defunct PDP Secretariat.
We want to categorically state that there is only one authentic PDP leadership in Benue State, and that is the one led by Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Awulu Adaji as the duly elected State Chairman.
The State Working Committee has not called for any expanded caucus meeting.
When the party decides to convene such a meeting, it will do so following the appropriate channels, and all relevant members will be duly informed through official communication as stipulated by the party’s constitution.
We, therefore, urge the general public and our esteemed party members to disregard any news or information regarding an expanded caucus meeting held outside of the party’s legitimate framework.
Such actions are the work of impostors and do not represent the leadership or decisions of the PDP in Benue State.
As a law-abiding party, we are already in touch with the national leadership to initiate the necessary legal processes against those behind this impersonation and those who participated in this unlawful act.
The PDP remains committed to upholding the rule of law, party discipline, and due process.
