The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly debunked media reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu advised Governor Hyacinth Alia to abandon his 2027 re-election ambition due to alleged non-performance.
In a press statement, the Chairman of the APC Unity Caretaker Committee in Benue, Chief Benjamin Omale, described the reports as false, malicious, and a calculated attempt by political opponents to discredit Governor Alia and strain his relationship with the President.
Chief Omale clarified that Governor Alia’s recent participation in the BRICS Summit in Brazil was at the express invitation of President Tinubu, who values the governor’s role in attracting foreign investments and partnerships in the areas of agriculture, security, and economic development for Benue State.
He strongly refuted the claim that the President conducted a secret investigation into Alia’s performance or advised him to drop his second-term ambition. Omale stated that such reports are part of a wider campaign by desperate political actors to mislead the public and incite internal party conflict.
Omale emphasized that Governor Alia is one of the top-performing governors in Nigeria, with visible progress in infrastructure, human empowerment, and security. He added that the President continues to show trust in Alia, even entrusting him with security-related responsibilities for the state.
On the 2027 general elections, Chief Omale reaffirmed that Governor Alia, like any other Nigerian, has a constitutional right to contest, and it is solely the decision of the Benue electorate to re-elect him based on performance and the large love which they have for him.
He urged those behind the spread of fake news to stop distracting the government and instead support the administration’s efforts toward the growth and stability of Benue State. He also reminded the public of previous false reports, such as the fake claim that Alia had defected from APC to ADC, which was later proven untrue.
In conclusion, Omale assured party faithful and the people of Benue that Governor Alia enjoys the full confidence of President Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC.
