What a colourful outing as the Apostolic Faith School (Nursery, Primary and Secondary School), Akure in Ondo State celebrated its maiden Inter House Sports competition in a grand style
The idea of the inter-house sports competition by the school was to help discover talents, promote healthy competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the students
The sports competition featured series of Games which include Filling the Basket, Egg and Spoon Race, 100m Sack Race, Football, 100m Race, 200m Race, Relay Race and Match Past among others
The School was divided into four houses, Blue, Red, Green and Yellow. However, at the end of the competition the Yellow House came first in the secondary school category, Green house came second, Red House came third and Blue House came 4th.
In the Primary School category, Blue House came first, Green House came second, Red House came third while Yellow House came 4th
Schools in the neighbourhood were also invited to participate in the competition.
In her remarks, the Chairman of Ondo State Waste Management Board, Mrs Olayinka Alabi-Oladapo who chaired the occasion expressed delight that the school was able to put up such competition event being the first Inter house sport organised by the school for the children to showcase their sporting talents.
She however charged teachers across the state to discover talents in students, aside from their academic routine
The chairman, a former Commissioner for Women Affairs stressed the need for primary and secondary schools to inculcate sporting activities in their curriculum, saying it will help develop future talents for the country.
“Sporting activities keep the body fit; it’s from events like inter-house sports that we can develop talents for the future.
“I am truly moved and inspired by the incredible performances of these young athletes as they showcase their sporting talents, compete with each other and interact with one another, in atmosphere of joy and happiness”, she said
However, in his address, the Area Overseer of the Apostolic Faith Church in Ondo State and Proprietor of the School, Rev. Joseph Adeboye Aro noted that the event “is not a do or die affair”, but ment for Physical Growth, Friendliness, Relaxation and talent Hunting and so it must be taken as such and there must not be any quarrelling leading to injury.
Rev Aro who was represented by Rev Henry Akinbobola commended the Principal, Mr. Idowu Olagookun, Vice Principal, Mrs Oluwasde Ruth Alabi, Head Mistress, Mrs Opeyemi Olubodun and all Staff Members of the school.
He also lauded the State Governing Board of the school headed by Dr. Paul Olopha and the PTA Chair Persons, Mr Omoloye Oluwatuyi and Mr. Odunayo Ogunlade respectively.
He congratulated the Sport Chairman, Mr. Olubunmi Omotoso, pupils and students for their hard work, perseverance and unwavering commitment to excellence from the track to the field events.
He also commended the teachers for their dedication and tireless efforts, which he said, was instrumental in shaping the athletic abilities, character and leadership qualities of the students.
“Education (as it affect our gathering today) we say is the all round development of the child i.e Academically, Physically, Emotionally and Spiritually e.t.c and today marks the beginning of a great achievement of one of the goals of education as a school, history is being made today as we are having the first inter house sport event”, Rev Aro added.
