The Governor of Benue State, Father Hyacinth Alia has submitted the list of the Security Committee which President Bola Tinubu directed him to form at last Wednesday’s town hall meeting in Makurdi to the Presidency.
The President during his speech directed the governor to set up a Security Committee made up of all former governors of the State, the Tor Tiv and Och’Idoma with the first military governor of the State, Mr. Atom Kpera as the chairman.
A reliable source at the Presidency told this newspaper this morning that Governor Alia has submitted the names of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chief Samuel Ortom PhD, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Mr. Atom Kpera, Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse and the Och’Idoma, Dr. John Elaigwu as members of the Committee.
In a related development, Governor Alia also met with Senator George Akume at his Maitama residence this morning where he briefed him of the Committee which list he has submitted to the Presidency.
According to findings, the governor visited Akume based on the presidential directive that both of them should meet and deliberate on a lasting solution to the ongoing killings in Benue state.
Recall that Senator George Akume few days ago went to the Government House in Makurdi to have a scheduled meeting with Governor Alia but left angrily when he couldn’t get an access for his security men to enter into the meeting with him.
The Government House security officials complained that it would amount to a security breach if Senator Akume’s security men numbering fifty were allowed into the meeting with the high-calibred firearms on them.
They were however advised to remain at a point where security details of VIPs use to stay anytime such VIPs are visiting the governor but this didn’t go down well with the SGF who left the gate with his entourage in anger.
