Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, categorically denied rumours circulating about a search for a new deputy governor ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking on Monday at the Old Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed commissioners in the state, Governor Alia stated that he has a capable, tested and people-oriented deputy governor, in the person of Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, who understands what governance is all about, emphasing that there is no vacancy for the office of the deputy governor of Benue State in 2027.
“Let me dispel this rumour as well. Lately, I have been reading in the newspapers that I am searching for a deputy governor for 2027.
“There is no vacancy. I have an able deputy governor who understands governance, who is people-oriented, who understands that government is about the people, and he is always with the people and for the people; one who is even a barrister, defending the Constitution”, he disclosed.
Governor Alia also highlighted the competence and capability of Dr. Sam Ode, his deputy saying “To any person thinking any other thing, I don’t know with them. But my deputy governor is very capable, is very tested, and he has all the capabilities to perform his own functions. He understands that “Ka u i doo Benue la i soo ye”. And that is what he is doing exactly”.
The Governor who further said “I love him, I enjoy working with him. I enjoy our personal relationship”, also concluded that anybody that is dreaming to become the deputy governor of Benue State in 2027 should shelve the idea because that cannot happen during the Alia administration.
The Governor’s statement comes in response to recent speculations, and his firm stance underscores his confidence in Dr. Sam Ode’s performance.
