This morning, the Social Media was filled with reports that the Governor of Benue State, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has secured the governorship ticket of the Allied People’s Movement for one of his social media boys, Mr. Damian Adaagba who is also a brother to the Benue SUBEB chairman, Grace Adaagba from Konshisha local government with an aim to use him to fight the Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa in court.
This allegation was made by a pressure group, The Alliance for Truth and Democracy in a press statement signed by its President, Comrade Jerome Zoho.
Meanwhile, it’s like Father Hyacinth Alia has forgotten that it’s impossible for a candidate from a party to challenge the candidacy of another political party in court. The Supreme made this clear in 2023 when the People’s Democratic Party in Benue state took Alia of the All Progressive Congress to court. The PDP was described by the court as a MEDDLESOME INTERLOPER.
While ruling on an appeal filed by the PDP that Governor Alia wasn’t qualified to contest the 2023 Governorship election, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal based on an argument that it was an internal dispute of the APC.
According to the Supreme Court, the Benue State People’s Democratic Party had no Locus Standi to take Alia to court since the plaintiffs weren’t members of the All Progressive Congress where Father Alia ran for the election.
Apart from the fact that there is no court order barring Aondoakaa from contesting the 2027 election, how does Father Hyacinth Alia think that his plot to use a governorship candidate from the APM to challenge the candidacy of the PDP candidate in court will be successful? It won’t work because the Supreme Court has made it clear that a Meddlesome interloper cannot file a case in court successfully.
The case won’t even see the light of the day because Damian Adaagba isn’t a member of the People’s Democratic Party.
