The internal crisis amongst the official Aides of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume on Thursday led to the tactical withdrawal of the SGF’s media activities from Mr. Terrence Kuanum.
Kuanum until yesterday was managing the media affairs of the SGF as his Special Adviser on Public Affairs.
According to sources within Senator Akume’s camp, Terrence Kuanum had at many times been accused of disclosing vital secrets about the Office of the SGF to Journalists for publication and would later return to the office for funds to arrange a damage control or counter reports.
Apart from this, it was learnt that Mr. Chris Tarkaa, the Chief of Staff to Senator George Akume had few days called the attention of the SGF to media reports where it was stated that Kaunum was unfit to manage the image of the former governor as a result of his previous media outings against him while he was the president of the Benue Youths Forum.
Terrence had at several press conferences called Senator George Akume a thief, looter, enemy of Benue State and financier of Fulani herders that have been killing the people of the State in their thousands.
After a due consultation and deliberation, it was agreed that media relations of Senator Akume should be tactically withdrawn from Terrence Kuanum hence the appointment of an ace journalist, Yomi Odunnuga as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF.
Yomi’s appointment has automatically taken the job of Akume’s spokesperson from Terrence Kuanum, a source said.
“He has been tactically removed with the appointment of Yomi. The appointment means that Oga has lost confidence in Terrence. He hasn’t been doing the job very well, and as a matter of fact, he has weakened the media of the SGF. He has been tactically fired because there is no way two people will be working with the SGF as his Adviser on Media and Publicity or Public Affairs” a source within the house said.
