Transparency International has written the Presidency over the ongoing genocides with a clear indication that some Abuja-based Benue politicians have paid militia members to begin attacks on all the markets across the twenty local government areas in the state especially on Market days.
Speaking in a press statement this evening, the Country Director of Transparency International, Mr. Abudulahi Kassim also stated that the militia members have been mandated to attack and kidnap travellers coming in and going out of Benue State.
According to Transparency International, the freshly planned attacks are plots by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume to further make Benue State unsafe. “Their plan is to use the attacks to further press for an Emergency Rule in Benue state” Kassim noted.
The group said that it will soon release his 2024/25 annual security reports in the Northeast and Northcentral areas of the country but stressed that President Bola Tinubu should not saddle the SGF with the responsibility of finding a solution to the ongoing killings in the state until the allegation by Governor Hyacinth Alia that some Benue politicians staying in Abuja are behind the killings.
According to Mr. Kassim, a State of Emergency isn’t the solution to the killings but a clear signal and warming from the Presidency that the accused Abuja-based politicians should stop using the lives and properties of innocent Benue people to settle scores with the State governor.
Hinting parts of its 2024/25 annual security reports, Transparency International warned that there would be massive and deadlier attacks in Benue state as tussles for the 2027 elections begin if the Presidency doesn’t check the federal appointees and federal lawmakers from the state immediately.
