Commending the efforts of Governor Hyacinth Alia for his approach towards the security challenges in Benue state, the state chapter of All Progressives Congress has called on well-meaning citizens to rally behind the Governor as he continues to demonstrate unwavering commitment and capacity in addressing the persistent security challenges confronting the Northcentral state.
The party which made this plea in a press statement signed by the Chairman of the Unity Caretaker Committee, Chief Benjamin Omale said that while insecurity in Benue State long predates the current administration, it is evident that Governor Alia is making every effort within his constitutional mandate to restore peace and safeguard lives and property.
According to Omale, a clear example of this is his recent donation of hundreds of Hilux vehicles and motorcycles to various security agencies under the Operation Anyam Nyor initiative—underscoring his proactive and strategic approach to security management.
The party commended Governor Alia’s bold actions and courageous leadership in the face of persistent threats, stressing that such must not be trivialized by individuals driven by political ambition or the desire for cheap publicity. “At a time like this, true leadership requires unity, sacrifice, and shared responsibility not distractions, division, or political mischief” the statement added..
The APC Benue State Chapter emphasized that securing Benue state is a collective responsibility, noting that every citizen has a role to play. “We therefore urge all residents to support ongoing government efforts by volunteering timely information, remaining vigilant, and exposing criminal elements and their sponsors. With a united front, we can overcome the forces of violence, restore peace to affected areas, and reclaim our communities” the statement added.
The statement reads In parts: “We also extend deep appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his directive to the Chief of Army Staff to take decisive charge of the security situation in Benue. This commendable move reflects the strong synergy and collaboration between the Presidency and the Government of Benue State.
“Furthermore, the recent establishment of a Special Operations Command of the Nigerian Navy at the North Bank River in Makurdi marks a strategic milestone in strengthening the state’s security architecture. The deployment of elite units, including the Special Boat Services and the Marine Security Unit, is a timely and welcome intervention in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.
“The APC in Benue State also extends its sincere gratitude to the various heads of security agencies in the state for their continued collaboration with the government. Your professionalism, commitment, and sacrifices in the protection of lives and property are commendable. We urge you to sustain and intensify these efforts so that the people of Benue can once again enjoy a peaceful and secure environment.
“The APC in Benue State fully supports these bold and commendable initiatives and reaffirms its confidence in the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia to ensure that Benue becomes safe, secure, and prosperous once again.
“Finally, we extend our heartfelt condolences to all families including my own who have lost loved ones in these senseless and unprovoked attacks. We draw strength from our collective resilience and the firm belief that, under Governor Alia’s leadership, Benue will surely rise again”
