Benue Defenders, an Independent security network in Benue state has cautioned the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi over his planned and calculated security breach in Benue state.
The group which spoke in a press statement through its Director of Press, Comrade Janet Adejor this afternoon said that Peter Obi’s aborted visit to the IDPs wasn’t genuine but a calculated plot to cause insecurity in the state.
The group asked why Peter Obi as a former governor in Anambra state failed to follow due process if he was genuinely coming to visit and support the IDPs in Benue state. “As a former governor, he should know the responsible steps to make if visiting another state governor” the group said.
According to the group, there are laid down principles and protocols to follow before anyone like Peter Obi can visit any state at this critical time when security of lives is no longer guaranteed as a result of killings by Fulani herdsmen here and there.
The group however challenged Peter Obi to be wise enough by spending his widow’s mite on his “bed-ridden” brother who has been on the sick bed for over thirteen years without a proper care from the former Anambra state governor.
“Imagine Obi who abandoned his own blood brother to be bed-ridden while he was governor for eight years, and up till now, he hasn’t given any help to him. And he said he wanted to come and help the IDPs in Benue state” the group stated.
The group also charged Obi to provide any proof of his contributions and supports to the IDPs in Anambra state and the entire South East during his eight years as governor of there are any.
According to the statement, Peter Obi never for once visited or gave supports of any kind to any of the numerous IDPs in Anambra state when he was governor for eight years even till now that he is running up and down that he wants to be president of the country.
The statement reads in parts:
“We hereby urge Mr. Peter Obi to steer clear and should not allow himself to be used by enemies of Benue state to come and cause security breach under the guise of coming to visit the IDPs.
” There is nothing wrong in him coming to give supports to our IDPs but he must follow the normal and required protocol unlike his aborted visit which was just to cause unrest in the state”
