Stakeholders of the Benue state chapter of All Progressive Congress, APC have been accused of stockpiling guns for the thugs they have reportedly brought into the state for the purpose of disrupting Saturday’s local government election in the state.
According to Human Rights Watch in a press conference this morning, the senator representing Benue Zone A, Emmanuel Udende, the representatives of Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, Terseer Ugbor, some members of the state’s National Assembly Caucus and federal appointees from the state are making plans to stop the election which the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC has fixed for this Saturday.
Addressing the press conference in Abuja this morning, the Executive Director of Human Rights Watch, Barrister Gyado Moses said findings have shown that the planned disruption of the poll cannot be unconnected to the failure of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume to pocket the structure of the state chapter of the party.
The group further said that hundreds of thugs from Nasarawa and Taraba states have been placed in various hotels across Benue state.
The group however called on the National Secretariat of the APC to look into the case of the “so-called” stakeholders who are hell bent on destroying the chances of the party to have victories in the poll.
They also called on the security agencies in the country to ensure that the allegations are investigated and those found culpable be prosecuted.
