The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has received a boost as the party’s leader, Chief Samuel Ortom, reaffirmed its determination to encourage the party to uproot the Alia-led Congress and erase its anti-people programs and policies.
Addressing the the gathering of Minda PDP Elders Forum in Makurdi, Ortom called for renewed efforts in mobilization for voter registration across the state to strengthen the party’s base ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ortom urged party members to equally open their arms and welcome old members from other parties wishing to return, as well as new members willing to join the party.
He emphasized the importance of consultation with the people, rather than expecting imposition, stressing that the PDP remains a party that provides a level playing ground for all who wish to contest.
The meeting also saw the successful election of a new leadership team for the Minda PDP Elders Forum.
Newly elected leadership, comprising respected party elders, includes Elder Charles Torbunde as Chairman, Elder Igba Peter as Deputy Chairman, Elder Orkaa John as Secretary, Elder Jerome Uyina as Treasurer, Elder Achaku Mark as Public Relations Officer (PRO), and Elder Terhemba Emmanuel as Organizing Secretary.
In his acceptance speech, Elder Charles Torbunde expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in the new leadership and promised to serve with dedication.
He vowed to build on the legacy of purposeful leadership left behind by the late Engr. Samuel Utoo and thanked Senator Fred Orti for his fatherly role in holding the Minda PDP family together.
Senator Orti, in his remarks, congratulated the new executive team and reminded them that leadership comes with challenges, but also with opportunities to write their names in gold through service.
He urged the new leaders to promote peace, unity, and inclusiveness among members and to emulate the quality leadership the Forum has been known for.
Chief Ortom in his closing remarks commended Senator Orti for his unwavering guidance and fatherly disposition that has sustained the unity of the Minda PDP Elders Forum and congratulated the new executive council, charging them to discharge their duties diligently.
The meeting was attended by party elders and Local Government Excos from the four local governments, who expressed their unanimous support for the newly elected leadership.
Representatives from the Masev, Ihyarev, and Nongov (MINDA) blocs also pledged their unwavering backing for the new leadership and reaffirmed their loyalty and blessings for Chief Samuel Ortom, recognizing his continuous leadership and contributions to the PDP family in Benue State.
